Traffic Control certification is a required competency for people controlling traffic using a stop-slow bat.

As per government and industry requirements, a person holding this qualification MUST undertake a refresher training course to in order to renew their Traffic Control certification once every 3 years.

A valid Traffic Controller’s Statement of Attainment must be carried at all times when operating as a Traffic Controller. This certification must be presented immediately to any Police Officer, Worksafe Officer, VicRoads Officer or Worksite Supervisor upon request.

A Traffic Control renewal course does not renew a Traffic Management qualification. To renew the Traffic Management qualification, participants are required to attend and complete an ‘Implement Traffic Management Plan RIIWHS302D’ refresher course.

To be eligible for Refresher Training, your current traffic qualification must be expired no more than 3 months prior to the course.

You MUST provide evidence of completion of your previous qualifications on the day of training. If your credentials have expired for more than 3 months then Refresher training is not appropriate for you and you will be refused entry to the class.

This means you will need to complete the full day Traffic Control course for to receive ‘Control Traffic with the Stop-Slow Bat RIIWHS205’ certification.

Course: Control Traffic with the Stop-Slow Bat RIIWHS205D REFRESHER

Traffic Control Renewal training refreshes the theoretical knowledge and the practical skills required to work both safely and effectively a Traffic Controller.

The course covers topics such as plan and prepare, control traffic, operate communication devices and clean up.

The class consists of Powerpoint presentations, videos, practical activities and theory assessments.

Course Requirements

A current or recently expired Statement of Attainment in RIIWHS205D Control Traffic with the Stop-Slow Bat accreditation must be sighted before entry into this course.

This is a REFRESHER course in the above accreditation. This course is NOT SUITABLE for participants who DO NOT already hold this qualification.

To safely perform practical activities, participants are required to wear comfortable closed-in shoes. THE TRAINER RESERVES THE RIGHT TO REFUSE ENTRY TO THE CLASS if appropriate shoes are not worn.

Participants must provide at least one form of valid photo I.D. (e.g. passport, driver’s licence, proof of age card, student card). A STATEMENT OF ATTAINMENT WILL NOT BE ISSUED if participants do not provide a valid form of photo I.D.

Participants should arrive 15 minutes prior the scheduled starting time of the course in order to the complete necessary registration paperwork. ENTRY TO THE COURSE WILL BE REFUSED if participants arrive 30 minutes after the scheduled starting time.

To complete the course assessments, the basic understanding of the English language, including reading and writing is required. THE TRAINER RESERVES THE RIGHT TO ENTRY TO THE COURSE based on the outcome of our Language, Literacy and Numeracy test which is available to all participants.

Course Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive:

  • Statement of Attainment (which is issued on the day after successful completion of the course and can be used immediately for work)
  • Plastic wallet-size card with renewal date included (which will be mailed after the course has been successfully completed)

Edway Training is approved by WorkSafe Victoria and accredited by Australian Skills and Quality Authority (ASQA) to deliver this training course.

Important USI Requirement

From 1 January 2015, every student who undertakes nationally recognised Vocational Education and Training (VET) in Australia is required to have a Unique Student Identifier (USI). Students can use their USI to access their enrolment and achievement record from a single online source. The USI is made up of ten numbers and letters. A USI account will contain all of a student’s nationally recognised training records and results since 1 January 2015.


  • Edway Training will verify your USI before a certificate or statement can be issued.
