In December 2016 ASQA has released new UoC CPCCWHS1001 – Prepare to work safely in the construction industry which supersedes  CPCCOHS1001A – Work safely in the construction industry also commonly known as White Card. It is expected that old UoC CPCCOHS1001A will no longer be current by the end of 2017, therefore, White Card course will be based on new UoC CPCCWHS1001 – Prepare to work safely in the construction industry.

Under the assessment requirements for the new UoC CPCCWHS1001 there is a specific requirement that all assessors must hold UoC CPCCWHS2001 Apply WHS requirements,  policies and procedures in the construction industry, or its successor.

This unit of competency covers fundamental OHS necessary to undertake work tasks within any sector in the construction industry. It includes the identification of hazardous materials, including asbestos, and compliance with legislated work safety practices. It does not cover removal of asbestos, which is a licensed activity. The unit relates directly to the general induction training program specified by the National Code of Practice for Induction for Construction Work (ASCC 2007) required to enter a construction work site. Completion of unit CPCCOHS1001A covers this requirement.

  1. Identify and assess risks.
  2. Identify hazardous materials and other hazards on work sites.
  3. Plan and prepare for safe work practices.
  4. Apply safe work practices.
  5. Plan and prepare for safe work practices.
  6. Follow emergency procedures.

Participants will be required to complete a range of assessments, including:

  • Computer marked questions: true/false, multi-choice, fill-in-the-blanks etc.
  • Assessor Marked questions: provide written answer etc.

Important USI Requirement

From 1 January 2015, every student who undertakes nationally recognised Vocational Education and Training (VET) in Australia is required to have a Unique Student Identifier (USI). Students can use their USI to access their enrolment and achievement record from a single online source. The USI is made up of ten numbers and letters. A USI account will contain all of a student’s nationally recognised training records and results since 1 January 2015.

IF A PARTICIPANT FAILS TO PRODUCE A VALID USI NUMBER, STATEMENT OF ATTAINMENT CANNOT BE ISSUED.
