As a licensee, approved manager, or club secretary in NSW, your responsibilities extend beyond completing the Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) course. This training equips you with the knowledge to fulfill your legal obligations, remain compliant with liquor laws, effectively manage your business, positively contribute to your community, and minimize alcohol-related harm.

Addressing alcohol misuse is crucial, as it can have significant negative impacts. Implementing harm minimization strategies not only protects your business’s reputation but also ensures legal compliance.

Non-compliance can result in severe penalties, including the loss of your license.

Accreditation and Approval

This course is regulated by Liquor & Gaming NSW (L&GNSW) but is not accredited by ASQA.

To gain Licensee or Advanced Licensee competency, you must complete the course through an approved provider.

Edway Training is approved by L&GNSW to deliver this course.

Training Prerequisites

Before enrolling in this training, you must possess a valid NSW competency card or interim certificate from a L&GNSW approved provider for Provide Responsible Service of Alcohol SITHFAB021.

If you do not have an RSA certificate or NSW competency card, you can obtain it by completing RSA training course. Visit our  RSA Sydney or RSA Sydney Online courses for more information, training schedule and online bookings.

Course Duration

This is an online learning course is done at your own pace and usually takes around 7 hours.

Access to the Online Course Module

Please note that the online course has 2 months (from the date of the confirmation email) expiry period.

If a person doesn’t successfully complete a course within 2 months, it will be automatically recorded as a fail and Licensee interim certificate will not be issued.

If a person doesn’t successfully complete online courses within 2 months,  they are not eligible to request a refund.

Licensee Training NSW

The Licensee Training course equips licensees, approved managers, and club secretaries with essential knowledge of liquor legislation, licence management, and strategies to mitigate alcohol-related harms.

Who Should Complete the Training

Licensee training is required for most licensees, approved managers, and club secretaries in the following scenarios:

Category Requirements
New Liquor Licence Applicants Complete RSA training and, where relevant, Licensee training.
Transfer Of Liquor Licence Complete the required Licensee training within 60 days of receiving provisional approval.
Approved Managers and Club Secretaries Appointed individuals must complete the required Licensee training within 60 days of lodging the application.
Qualified Interstate Workers Interstate workers with appropriate RSA qualifications can skip the NSW RSA Bridging course and complete Licensee Training to gain both NSW RSA and Licensee Training competencies.

RSA and RCG Competency Renewal

  • Completing Licensee training will automatically renew your existing RSA competency. However, it does not automatically renew your RCG competency.
  • In NSW, all competencies expire five years from the first competency gained. Completing Licensee training resets your competency expiry period.
  • You must renew your RCG competency before completing Licensee training to keep all your competencies current.

Renewing RCG Competency

Complete Online RCG Refresher Course: Do this before enrolling with an approved training provider for Licensee training.

Present Required Certificates: Provide one of the following certificates issued within the last 90 days during enrollment:

  • RCG Interim Certificate
  • RCG Refresher Interim Certificate
  • RCG Refresher Completion Certificate

Note: Complete the online RCG refresher if you completed or renewed your RCG competency more than 90 days ago.

SCENARIOS FOR RCG ENDORSEMENT RETENTION

Scenario Details
Before RCG Card Expiry Use the link in your renewal reminder notice (email/SMS) to complete the RCG refresher course online. Obtain and present the RCG Refresher Completion Certificate when enrolling in Licensee training.
Licensee Training for Specific Roles Provisionally approved licensees, appointed managers, approved club secretaries, or new liquor license applicants must complete the RCG refresher course before enrolling in Licensee training. Upon approval, you will receive an email link to complete the RCG refresher course. If no email is received, or RCG competency was renewed over 90 days ago, email competency.card@liquorandgaming.nsw.gov.au with your CCH number, full name, and date of birth to request a refresher link.
Voluntary Licensee Training If RCG competency was renewed over 90 days ago, request a refresher link by emailing competency.card@liquorandgaming.nsw.gov.au with your CCH number, full name, and date of birth.

Surrendering RCG Endorsement

You may choose to surrender the RCG endorsement using the RCG Surrender Form. Submit the completed form when enrolling in Licensee training with an approved provider.

Licensee Refresher Online

The Licensee Refresher online course is a mandatory 60-to-90-minute program for renewing RSA, Licensee, and Advanced Licensee endorsements. Provided exclusively by L&GNSW, it ensures endorsements are valid for another five years.

All students enrolling into any Edway Training courses must have LLN skills to do simple calculations, understand English well enough to be able to read, write, and provide verbal responses to questions in English to undertake training and assessment in any of our courses.
