It’s no secret that we use heat every day in our life. Whether you are cooking a meal or ironing your clothes, you need heat in your daily routine. Unfortunately, this could also lead to accidents. This is why it is best to learn proper first aid for burns and scalds.
Why You Need First Aid for Burns and Scalds
A simple burn or scald is more common than you think. However, some people brush it off if it’s a minor burn. On the other hand, there might be instances when the injury is more severe and would require first aid. This is why you need to know how to treat burns and scalds.
The Proper First Aid for Burns and Scalds
- Cool the burn down immediately. Place the affected area under cool running water for about 20 minutes. Avoid using ice or iced water as this could only make the injury worse.
- If the burn looks serious, make sure to keep the patient warm. You may need to cover the patient in a blanket or several layers of clothing. Do not cover the affected area.
- Call for help immediately. Contact Triple Zero 000 so the patient can receive proper treatment as soon as possible.
