- Cool the burn down immediately. Place the affected area under cool running water for about 20 minutes. Avoid using ice or iced water as this could only make the injury worse.
- If the burn looks serious, make sure to keep the patient warm. You may need to cover the patient in a blanket or several layers of clothing. Do not cover the affected area.
- Call for help immediately. Contact Triple Zero 000 so the patient can receive proper treatment as soon as possible.
