Prerequisites include the completion of RIISS00060 Traffic Management Implementer Skill Set for Urban Streets and Low Volume Rural Roads and at least one month of relevant experience. Evidence of setting up at least 12 temporary traffic management types, including high-speed or high-volume roads, is required.

If you haven’t completed TMI1 or are new to the industry, we recommend the TC1 TMI1 Combo, which is an excellent introductory training to Temporary Traffic Management.

Edway Training, with confirmation from the Victorian Government, will be offering limited training services onsite. This is to assist permitted work premises and permitted workers to obtain necessary qualifications, specifically in the areas of First Aid and Construction work.

All courses will follow strict COVID-19 precautions and requirements based on guidelines set out by the Victorian Government for permitted workplaces.

These include;

  • Edway Training will abide by and have available at all times a COVIDSafe Plan
  • All Edway Training staff have completed COVID-19 Infection Control Training
  • Edway Training will offer hand sanitation stations in every classroom and at the entrance and exit of our building.
  • All staff and students will be required to sign a declaration that they are free of any signs or symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19), and or close contact of anyone who has tested positive.
  • All student and staff are required to wear a facemask at all times.
  • All staff and students are required to have their temperature is taken prior to entry into classes.
  • All classes will be conducted abiding by the 4sqm and 1.5m social distancing guidelines.
  • Classes will have regular breaks every 2 hours.
  • Edway Training’s staff will sanitise all surfaces and high contact items such as door handles at each break and air the room during the break.
  • During breaks, student will be required to maintain social distancing and to spend as much of the break outside as possible.

Skill Set Overview

This skill set equips individuals with skills to implement traffic management plans in Temporary Traffic Management (TTM) Category 2 environments, including high volume roads and signalised intersections.

Traffic Management Implementer 2 (TMI2) provides skills in assessing and planning traffic management schemes, setting up and monitoring Traffic Guidance Schemes (TGS), coordinating resources, ensuring work health and safety compliance, team communication, incident and emergency management, completing reporting and documentation, and effectively closing down traffic management sites.

Operational and Supervisory Roles

  • Individuals working in operational or supervisory roles within the Resources and Infrastructure Industries.
  • Participants responsible for on-site operations involving traffic management.

Live Traffic Environments

  • Individuals in supervisory roles who are responsible for managing live traffic environments.
  • Those with responsibility for the safety and efficiency of traffic management setups, particularly on higher-speed or higher-volume roads.

Completing the TMI2 course provides credits towards recognised qualifications such as RII30920 Certificate III in Civil Construction and Other Certificate II and III Qualifications.

Expiry

The TMI2 training is valid for three years from the date of completion.
To maintain certification, a refresher course is required every three years.

    Participants are required to complete practical experience involving at least three different types of traffic management setups on declared Temporary Traffic Management Category 2 roads within six months of completing the theoretical component. This includes tasks such as setting up traffic guidance schemes (TGS), managing traffic flow, implementing safety measures, and conducting practical assessments under the supervision of a qualified and experienced Traffic Management Implementer. This must be completed after the theory based learning and before the final practical assessment
  • Stage 3:
    Practical application and assessment. Practical training is conducted in a simulated environment. The practical assessment component is to be undertaken after the practical experience is gained.

    Participants must maintain a logbook of activities, verified by a supervisor. Practical assessments are conducted in live traffic scenarios and must be completed within six months of the theoretical component.
