TC2 Advanced Traffic Controller Training Melbourne
The TC2 Advanced Traffic Control course is designed for professionals in the civil construction industry responsible for traffic control on Temporary Traffic Management Category 2 environments. This mandatory training ensures compliance with industry standards and offers career advancements in traffic control and site supervision.
The course spans one day of classroom-based learning, followed by at practical experience. Participants will develop skills in traffic control preparation, communication, and high-volume road management.
Accredited by ASQA and endorsed by Austroads and the Department of Transport and Planning Victoria, this course awards a Statement of Attainment with the skill set:

Please note that completion of the TC1 Traffic Controller RIISS00058 Skill Set for Urban Streets and Low Volume Rural Roads and at least 40 hours of experience in a temporary traffic management workplace are required to attend this course.

Edway Training, with confirmation from the Victorian Government, will be offering limited training services onsite. This is to assist permitted work premises and permitted workers to obtain necessary qualifications, specifically in the areas of First Aid and Construction work.
All courses will follow strict COVID-19 precautions and requirements based on guidelines set out by the Victorian Government for permitted workplaces.
These include;
- Edway Training will abide by and have available at all times a COVIDSafe Plan
- All Edway Training staff have completed COVID-19 Infection Control Training
- Edway Training will offer hand sanitation stations in every classroom and at the entrance and exit of our building.
- All staff and students will be required to sign a declaration that they are free of any signs or symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19), and or close contact of anyone who has tested positive.
- All student and staff are required to wear a facemask at all times.
- All staff and students are required to have their temperature is taken prior to entry into classes.
- All classes will be conducted abiding by the 4sqm and 1.5m social distancing guidelines.
- Classes will have regular breaks every 2 hours.
- Edway Training’s staff will sanitise all surfaces and high contact items such as door handles at each break and air the room during the break.
- During breaks, student will be required to maintain social distancing and to spend as much of the break outside as possible.

Course Information
Skill Set Overview
This skill set equips individuals with the essential skills and knowledge for traffic control in Temporary Traffic Management (TTM) Category 2 environments, including high volume roads.
Advanced Traffic Controller 2 (TC2) provides skills for safely controlling traffic on high volume roads. The training includes communication, risk management, worksite set up and management, emergency responses and record maintenance.
Pathways
Completing the TC2 course provides credits towards recognised qualifications such as RII30920 Certificate III in Civil Construction and Other Certificate II and III Qualifications.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfer
- RPL
Assessment against Austroads TTM program requirements, including a challenge test. - Credit Transfer
Available for equivalent units from approved providers, with a challenge test for non-Austroads programs.
Expiry
The Traffic Controller 2 training is valid for three years from the date of completion.
To maintain certification, a refresher course is required every three years.

Participants are required to complete a minimum of 20 hours practical training in real-world traffic management environments under the supervision of qualified and licensed professionals. This must be completed after the theory based learning and before the final practical assessment - Stage 3:
Practical application and assessment. Practical training is conducted in a simulated environment.

Participants must complete a minimum of 20 hours in a temporary traffic management workplace, conducted in real or simulated environments. This includes setting up traffic control devices, directing traffic, managing pedestrian and cyclist controls, and handling lane and shoulder closures.
Participants must maintain a logbook of activities, verified by a supervisor. Practical assessments are conducted in live traffic scenarios and must be completed within six months of the theoretical component.
This can be completed at the participant’s place of employment. If the participant is not employed, Edway Training has arrangements with approved traffic management companies to facilitate the completion of the required practical elements.
